Interesting decision from ECHR where a convicted rapist gets almost 12 000 euro compensation because of poor prison conditions in Latvia.
This raised a huge debate in Latvia, many claiming that this court decision is “bullshit”, “unjust” and so on. I beg to disagree with the critics. This case shows once again how low developed is culture and understanding of fundamental human rights – as the one enshrined in art 3 of European Convention on Human Rights, which is applied in this particular case.
